Klipboard, the global provider of industry-specific business management software, has announced the private preview of its Model Context Protocol (MCP) service, creating new opportunities for businesses to connect compatible external AI assistants with the operational capabilities of Klipboard software.

Developed as part of the Klipboard AI Platform, the service builds on the Generative and Agentic AI capabilities already available within Klipboard products. It provides an additional way for AI applications to interact with approved business information and functionality, while keeping business rules, permissions and transaction processing within Klipboard's software.

Connecting AI with everyday business operations

As businesses increasingly use AI applications alongside their core operational systems, the ability to connect information and workflows becomes more important.

Klipboard's MCP service is designed to help address this challenge by allowing compatible AI assistants to discover and request approved actions through a standardised interface.

Rather than repeatedly searching for information, switching between applications or entering the same details into different systems, users could access relevant business context and progress supported tasks through connected AI experiences.

The approach builds on the specialist functionality already available within Klipboard products, rather than recreating business processes inside an external AI assistant.

From information to action

The potential applications extend beyond retrieving information.

For example, a connected AI experience could bring together relevant customer records ahead of a conversation, check availability against existing commitments or help prepare a supported transaction for review.

These workflows depend on the capabilities made available through the connected software and the permissions granted to the user.

By combining operational context with approved actions, the service creates opportunities for AI to support more complete business processes while maintaining the controls customers rely on.

Built around industry-specific knowledge

Klipboard's approach reflects the importance of industry knowledge in making AI useful.

In distribution, automotive, rental and other specialist industries, the right action depends on more than simply retrieving a record. Customer requirements, availability, suitability and existing operational commitments can all influence what happens next.

By providing governed access to established product capabilities, Klipboard aims to help connected AI experiences work with the business context and processes already managed within its software.

The MCP service complements Klipboard's embedded AI capabilities, extending the ways customers may interact with their business systems without replacing the intelligence built into Klipboard products.

A controlled private preview

The initial private preview will involve participating customers and a defined set of approved actions.

Access will be governed through licensing entitlements, named-user permissions, separate agent identities and distinct scopes for retrieving information and making changes. Product business rules and appropriate approvals will continue to govern supported actions, with audit records providing visibility into activity.

The preview will allow Klipboard and participating customers to explore practical use cases, validate connected workflows and refine the service based on real-world requirements.

Support for MCP does not automatically mean compatibility with every third-party AI assistant. The private preview will operate within an agreed and validated scope.

Building towards more connected AI

The introduction of the MCP service forms part of Klipboard's wider strategy to develop intelligent, connected and increasingly capable industry-specific business software.

As AI continues to evolve, Klipboard is focused on helping customers make better use of their operational information, connect relevant workflows and move more easily from identifying what needs to be done to taking the next step.
